Senior HSE Specialist

Drive safety excellence on a major construction project and make a lasting impact on site performance.

Our Client has a requirement for a Senior HSE Specialist, who will be required to work on a contract basis in the Padeswood.

Role Purpose:

• Provide expert Health, Safety and Environmental advice and guidance throughout the construction phase of a major project.
• Support compliance with legislation, client requirements, company policies and management systems.
• Act as a trusted advisor to project teams, contractors, vendors and key stakeholders.
• Contribute to reducing project risk and promoting a positive safety culture across site activities.

Job Role Responsibilities:

• Support implementation of the project HSE management system and achievement of HSE objectives.
• Monitor contractor and vendor HSE performance, intervening where required to address substandard conditions or behaviours.
• Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including CDM Regulations.
• Engage with the workforce to proactively identify and resolve safety concerns.
• Carry out assurance activities in accordance with project assurance plans.
• Support delivery of HSE campaigns and site-wide safety initiatives.
• Ensure emergency response arrangements are effectively implemented.
• Lead or support incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Provide HSE performance data and reports to project leadership.
• Support permit-to-work and construction work coordination activities.
• Implement awareness campaigns to promote hazard identification and risk management.
• Support the delivery of project HSE inductions.
• Ensure environmental aspects are managed in accordance with environmental management plans.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with project stakeholders, contractors and vendors.
• Promote a positive HSE culture through workforce engagement initiatives.
• Attend and contribute to HSE meetings, workshops and forums.
• Undertake any additional duties assigned by the Site HSE Manager.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

• NEBOSH General Certificate.
• Valid CSCS card or eligibility to obtain one.
• Membership of IOSH or an equivalent professional body.
• Experience working in a dedicated HSE role.
• Experience within heavy construction environments.
• Experience operating Permit to Work and control of work systems.
• Working knowledge of CDM Regulations and construction safety requirements.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
• Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to influence and motivate teams to achieve HSE objectives.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and positive approach.
• Ability to perform effectively under pressure within fast-paced project environments.
• Computer literate, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience using action tracking systems and databases.
• Commitment to continuous professional development.
• Experience across the EPC lifecycle is desirable.
• Previous responsibility for fulfilling CDM duties on construction projects is desirable.
• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification is desirable.
• ICAM, RCA or other recognised incident investigation training is desirable.
• Qualified auditor of safety and environmental management systems is desirable.
• Chartered Membership of IOSH or equivalent professional institution is desirable.
